SIDNEY HOLMES III

"Coach Holmes" was born with basketball in his blood. He began playing at a very young age in school and on an AAU team. Ready to play at a high level of competition he attended Brother Rice High School in Chicago IL where he made several school records for rebounding including the all time game high of 24 rebounds. He graduated in 2000 making the All Catholic League and gaining the title of Best defensive player.

After graduation, Coach Holmes attended Barat College in Lake Forest Illinois where he would break state records for rebounding and help lead his team to the NAIA finals. In 2002 he transfered to Lewis University and soon earned a spot in the starting five winning the Bakersfield tournament and gaining acclaim.

After graduating from Lewis University with a degree in Sociology, Sidney signed with the Rockford Lightning of the CBA. In his rookie year he was selected for the CBA slam dunk contest and took second place. After spending two years with the Lightning, Holmes signed with Namika Lahti in Finland and took his talents overseas. As a professional player Coach Holmes has been blessed to play on three different continents spending seasons in Finland, Romania, North Dakota, Portugal, and Morrocco. In his 2010 season in Portugal he was named the Portugese league MVP and Import Player of the year. In the summer of that same year he was named the GatoradeReplay the Series Season 3 MVP where he got the chance to work with Dwight Howard, Dwayne Wade, and Carlos Boozer.  He went on to start for Wydad Athletic Club in Casablanca, Morocco and led his team to the final championship.

In the off season Coach Holmes partakes in many coaching opportunities working with kids of all abilities. In 2012 he took a break from playing overseas to stay with his family and coached the Lady Gryphons at Beaufort Middle School. Coach Holmes is known for his ability to incite the love for the game in each student he encounters. He excels at developing a strong competitive player but never loses his sense of humor or playful and fun demeanor. He has the ability to get a student to work hard without them even knowing they did!! Coach Holmes is excited to be coaching camp this summer and can't wait to see you there!!
